Is it possible to find gold in quartz? Yes, gold can be discovered in quartz. It nestles in quartz veins (lines) or fissures and appears as microscopic particles or scales. In certain circumstances, tiny quantities of gold may be seen within quartz, although much of it is undetectable to the naked eye.
Gold has been found in all manner and form of rock including granite, gneiss, shale, sandstone, and limestone. It has been found in alluvial deposits (material deposited by rivers) and in mineral deposits formed under ground such as kimberlites (crystalline rocks containing metal ore). Gold has also been found in fossils dating back hundreds of millions of years!
Miners use various methods to extract gold from its ores. They can be classified into two main groups: hydrometallurgical processes and pyrochemical processes.
Hydrometallurgical processes include cyanidation, leaching, and grinding up minerals at a mine site and treating them with chemicals to release the gold from its rock matrix. The most common method used today is hydrochloric acid leaching. This process uses heat and pressure to dissolve some of the minerals holding the gold inside. After removing the spent pulp and washing the gold out with other substances, you are left with a gold solution that can be turned into gold bars or coins.

Other common ingredients in gold ore include copper, lead, zinc, palladium, platinum, and iodine. These elements are used to test for gold during mining operations and provide information about where the material in the ground came from. They also indicate how much gold might be in the ore.
