Jack Nicklaus - Jack Nicklaus encouraged a generation to take up the game of golf, and he was also an inspiration to us at London Golf Club. As a player, he was head and shoulders above the rest on the field. His name is synonymous with course design brilliance. When he turned his attention to club design, he created some of the most iconic clubs in golf history, including the 7-wood and 15-hybrid.
The London Golf Club was founded in 1755 by William Fitzwilliam, 1st Earl Fitzwilliam. He bought an estate near Chiswick that included more than 6,000 acres of land, and he invited some of the best players in England to come and play on this new course. The club has been in continuous operation ever since then, and they still use some of the original architecture as their clubhouse today.
The first written record of Jack Nicklaus being asked to design a golf course comes from 1975, when Peter Dyson wrote him a letter asking for advice on what kind of course he would design if he were starting over today. This is when Jack started designing courses on a full-time basis. The first course he designed was called "The Golden Horseshoe", and it was opened for business in 1980. Since then, he has gone on to design more than 20 courses all over the world, including several in the United States.
Back in the 1960s, an Ohio teen checked in on the development of what would become the state's highest-ranked course. The design was The Golf Club, and the youngster was Jack Nicklaus, a curious spectator of Pete Dye's work.
Nicklaus would go on to become one of the greatest players in golf history. He is the only person ever to win majors on both the PGA and LPGA Tours. His seven Masters titles are a record for most overall wins. His name appears on every major championship trophy that bears his image.
But Nicklaus did not start out as the world's best golfer. On the contrary, he was actually quite bad at golf when he first arrived at The Golf Club. His old coach once said: "If you added up all the hours Jack spent playing golf, he might have learned how to shoot 85 percent from the fairway." But Nicklaus didn't care about shooting percentages, he just wanted to play golf with his friends.
He finally found an instructor who could help him improve his game, so he moved to Ohio with his family. It wasn't until later that he realized how special this training session was going to be. The man who taught Jack Nicklaus was Bob Hamilton, one of the most famous golf designers in America.

Walter Hagen was a American golfer who became famous in the 1920s and 1930s for his success on the PGA Tour. He also manufactured golf clubs in conjunction with the TaylorMade brand from 2002 to 2013.
TaylorMade brought back the Walter Hagen name in 2014 for use on its irons and wedges. The company has not announced any future relationship with the Hagen family business.

He was born on April 5, 1889 in New York City. His father was a wealthy banker who died when Walter was only nine years old. Since there were no children else involved, Walter's mother had to raise him by herself. She worked long hours as a stenographer to make enough money to give her son all the opportunities she could afford.
At the age of 14, Walter taught himself how to play golf. In 1907, he joined an amateur team called The Americans that included Sam Snead and James Foulis. The team won the national championship that year.
Phil Mickelson, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Greg Norman are among the other players who have appeared at some point on this list (which has been running since 1990). Golfers prior to this time period cannot be compared, yet incomes in golf have lately surged. There are now more female golfers than ever before, and many of them earn significant amounts of money by playing the game they love.
The popularity of golf is growing worldwide. Many countries have seen their participation rates increase over the past few years because of better equipment and improved teaching methods. The United States is the most popular sport among men, followed by Australia and Japan. Women are more likely to play in Europe where several countries have higher rates than in America. However, there are still very few women who make any kind of income from golf.
The PGA Tour is by far the most prestigious tour in golf and has the highest pay scale. Its top prize is called the "Grand Slam" and it includes $10 million dollars. This is more than any other professional sports league or tournament. In fact, according to the latest statistics from the Department of Commerce, athletes on this tour make an average of $750,000 per year. This is nearly twice as much as all the other major sports leagues combined!
Many prominent golfers have also done well outside of sports-related endeavors.
